Welcome to the Principal’s Page
Hello SJS Families!  My name is Susan McDonough and here is a little information about me…I am a product of Catholic Schools.  I attended F.A.W. from 1st through 8th grade, and then graduated from St. Mary’s Ryken in 1990.  After high school, I enrolled at Washington College in Chestertown, MD where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities and a minor in Spanish.  I earned my Masters in Leadership in Teaching from the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore, MD in May of 2004.

In 1996, I began my teaching career at Mother Catherine Spalding School in Helen, MD.  In 2001, I transitioned to St. John’s School to teach 4th grade.  After 5 years, I moved into the position of 6th grade teacher at SJS.  I spent 3 years teaching 6th grade.  Then, in 2009, I moved, once again at SJS to teach 8th grade.

In May of 2012, I was appointed interim principal of St. John’s School.  In May of 2013, I was appointed the permanent position of Principal of St. John’s School.  I live in St. Mary’s County with my husband, Matthew, and my two children, Callie and William.
