Homework


Your student should be maintaining a homework agenda, writing down HW at school. I do post HW and some important reminders daily on this web page so that HW can be confirmed, and also, so that absent students can obtain assignments. Thanks.

If your child has lower test scores, please encourage ACTIVE studying, not “looking it over”. This can dramatically increase performance. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of completing all homework thoughtfully…not rushing through it just to get it done. Thank you. Mrs. Taylor

 


Study Tips


Here are some of my favorite study tips–start early:

  • Turn the objectives or What you will learn into “Can I….” questions to check for understanding.
  • Always use Previewing Technique for reading assignments and any worksheets!
  • Preview workbook pages before reading the section and “take notes” by filling in the science workbook pages.
  • Use index cards to create vocab study cards. Use them to make a written quiz for yourself; First put word side up and write the definitions. Then put definitions side up and retest the opposite way.

GRADE 7 HOMEROOM: Remember See Keep Christ in Christmas email. Also, I will be creating a google doc and sending the link with pictures from our field trip that you are free to access.

SPELLING NOTE Gr 6 & 7: Less 5 Vocabulary WKBK due Friday for Gr 6. Both spelling tests are Monday 11/20. If you are traveling and will not be here, please take it BEFORE you leave (make arrangements with me please).

Gr 6 Sci Graphing Activities Homework finish the questions for Depth verses temperature and for Duckweed. (do not do #2 question). Also, examine data for the bubbles verses depth and decide about intervals for each axis and how many blocks from left and bottom we need to count off to place the graph correctly on the paper.

Gr 7 Sci – Test this Friday. Need to know the organelles and their jobs. Plus be able to label a diagram. Also be able to fill in a table (not necessarily matching!!) for definitions and terms. Organization of cell theory and scientists’ names and contributions–Any info in Sect 3– read all captions and study diagrams! Prokaryote verses Eukryote.  Plus–we did reteaching for latent verses active virus and role of specific host cell for viral replication, and phylogeny –these are items from previous test that some students missed.  Cells Alive web page–check it out!

We did the “Can you identify these cell structures?” cell parts riddle worksheet today ( due at end of class) & we rec’d rubric for cell scientific drawings and viewed A samples. These are colored and please use colored pencils. These drawings are due Monday 11/20. but this would be good prep for test as a rough draft. You may select plant or animal cell and you may do the other for extra credit as well as a prokaryotic for further extra credit. You may use the images from your text, the extra texts in our room, or simple ones from on-line images.

Gr 8 Sci-  Chapter Review 1-20 pp 486-487 will be due Friday Nov 17. IF you use complete sentences even for the multiple choice, you earn extra credit. Other wise, you must at minimum write the definitions/comparisons for the first section and the word and letter choice for the multiple choice and then complete answers for the remaining few questions. Please do on loose-leaf with a correct heading. We will do the electron dot diagrams in class on Thursday. TEST is Tuesday. IF you are traveling, please make an appointment to take it Monday–even after school if needed.
