Welcome to Mrs. Taylor’s Web Page
It’s my goal to post helpful info, important reminders, and homework for ALL my classes on this page.
Your student should be maintaining a homework agenda, writing down HW at school. I do post HW and some important reminders daily on this web page so that HW can be confirmed, and also, so that absent students can obtain assignments. Thanks.
If your child has lower test scores, please encourage ACTIVE studying, not “looking it over”. This can dramatically increase performance. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of completing all homework thoughtfully…not rushing through it just to get it done. Thank you. Mrs. Taylor
Here are some of my favorite study tips–start early:
- Turn the objectives or What you will learn into “Can I….” questions to check for understanding.
- Always use Previewing Technique for reading assignments and any worksheets!
- Preview workbook pages before reading the section and “take notes” by filling in the science workbook pages.
- Use index cards to create vocab study cards. Use them to make a written quiz for yourself; First put word side up and write the definitions. Then put definitions side up and retest the opposite way.
SPELLING NOTE Gr 6 & 7:
Sorry we ran out of time to check worksheet–have them on Monday. IF you have been getting below 85% on either of your last 2 tests, you must write words 1-10 five times on Tuesday and turn in on Wed and then 11-20 on Wed and turn in on Thursday , then 1-20 on the night before the test, due the day of the test. When you have 2 tests in a row that are 85 or above you may choose not to do this unless you drop down again. I have touched base with students so they know if they are in the 5X Club! No vocabulary this week.
Extra words are up for anyone who needs makeups.
Gr 6 Sci – Great job on your mass and density lab today! If you have been absent get your sheets done in the packet. Make an appointment to make -up the labs on volume and temperature. No HW unless you have make-ups.
Please note: On-line textbook no longer is available but student resources are (such as quizzes!). Cut and paste the following into your browser. Then select Integrated science. Then level Red 2008.
Gr 7 Sci ––NO HW unless you have make-ups Make-up tests are Monday! –however, we will start section 3 of the chapter (Cell Structure) on Monday and workbook for sect 3 will be due on Tuesday. IF you want to get ahead you may start it.
Please note: On-line textbook no longer is available but student resources are (such as quizzes!). Cut and paste the following into your browser. Then select Integrated science. Then level Green 2008.
Gr 8 Sci- Test is Thursday Nov 2 This will be for first quarter. Great job on Periodic table posters. If you have been absent–you have an extension–please have them by Tuesday. Workbook sects 1-3 due next Tuesday Oct 30 . We had time in class today for workbooks and/or projects. Please note: tests are coming home today–students may make corrections by attaching a looseleaf paper and writing out the complete statement with correct word (letter choice in parentheses) and noting the page of text or workbook oro date/title of class handouts where the answer was found. This is due Monday…place in the science turn in bin first thing!!
Directions were given last week for the element posters–due Thursday. Be sure to include element name, symbol, atomic number, atomic mass, state of matter at RT, valence electrons (for representative elements), uses, where found in nature, any cool facts and pictures! Make your poster neat, creative, easy to read!Use the supplied paper!!!! Create portrait orientation please!
Some of you chose a second one for extra credit–good job!
Start thinking of Vanity Tag phrases you can spell out with Element symbols. Here’s mine: Th I N K– You need to draw yours to look like element boxes! Bring your ideas no later than Monday 10/30 for approval. The due date is Friday 11/3 and then we will set a date for the actual product. Like a vanity tag– no more than 7 characters–so if an element has a 2 letter name–that’s 2!!
Please note: On-line textbook no longer is available but student resources are (such as quizzes!). Cut and paste the following into your browser. Then select Integrated science. Then level Blue 2008.
