Wednesday, 9/20/17

  • Wednesday folders come home today!  Please sign all tests, as well as the outside of the folder.  In addition to tests, you will find the AR contract in the Wednesday folder that you will need to sign and return.  In addition, you will see a sheet that tells you how to log on to AR at home and also what level your child tested on when taking the STAR test.

  • Please remember to bring in items for our Movie Night basket.  These items are due next Wednesday, September 27th.

  • Unfortunately, the germs are already out and about this school year!  Please remember that your child may not return to school unless they have been fever free (without medication) for 24 hours. If they have vomiting or diarrhea, the same rule applies.

  •  Don’t forget to stop by the SJS art exhibit at the County Fair this weekend!  Tickets and coupons can be found in your child’s Wednesday envelope!

  • My apologies, as I did not put down spelling as a test this week!  Spelling tests are given weekly unless otherwise noted.  However, due to my error on the website this week, I will give them the spelling test and ONLY if the class does well will I count it as a grade.

  • Lastly, the book bags are LARGE this evening.  I have stressed to students that it does not have to be this way.  Because I announce tests at the beginning of the week, I strongly encourage the students to pick one subject a night to study for so they are not taking them all home at one time.  The Journeys Reading series is online.  You can use this link to access it.  If the link doesn’t work, you can Google it.

Tests for the week of 9/18.  All tests will take place on Thursday, 9/21/17.

Reading – Vocabulary ONLY for Stormalong

Religion – Test on Chapter 3

English – Short quiz on subjects and predicates (complete, simple, and compound)

    • This has proven to be a bit tricky for students, despite our intense efforts in the classroom to get it right.  I always start by telling students to find the verb in the sentence.  If they can find the verb, there is a 50% chance the rest of it will be correct.  Unfortunately, many students do not know what a verb is or cannot find one.  They should know this by now.  Please work with your children at home to reinforce concepts we are working on during the day.

Science – Test on Lessons 1 and 2 of Chapter 1.  Students have two review sheets they can  use to study tonight.   The test will consist of fill in the blank problems.

Homework for 9/20.

  • Math – pg. 79, Lesson Practice a-e, Written Practice #9-12
    • These problems cover today’s lesson.  Even though it’s only covering adding 3 digit numbers, 3/4 of the class made mistakes today when adding.  This will give them extra practice at home so we can move onto Lesson 14 tomorrow.
  • Social Studies – Students must fill out ONLY the circles for the Atlantic Coastal Plain Region, which we have been studying for the past  couple of days.  There must be at least 3 different answers for each circle.
